Tips from the Emergency Dentist Longview, WA, Relies on for Care

Until you can be seen by Dr. Kennington in our Castle Rock office, here are some helpful tips on how to properly handle different dental emergencies.

  1. One of the most common dental emergencies is a sore tooth. Sometimes, the cause may be a food particle lodged between two teeth. Try flossing or using a toothpick to remove the particle. If this doesn’t help, then the pain may be caused by an infection deep inside the tooth. Call our office immediately, so we can schedule an appointment as soon as possible.
  2. Broken Tooth. After you’ve called to notify us of your emergency, you can use a cold compress to alleviate pain and swelling if your tooth was broken as a result of a blow to the face. You can also take ibuprofen or acetaminophen. If you have the portion of tooth that was broken, store it in a sealed container filled with water or wrap it in a damp towel.
  3. A knocked out tooth. Certainly one of the most serious of dental emergencies is a knocked out or avulsed tooth. If attended to quickly, however, it is possible for Dr. Kennington to save the tooth. If you can, rinse the tooth and place it back in its socket. If this isn’t possible, then preserve the tooth in a container of milk and head to our office.
